Project Overview
For this project, I drew inspiration from retro-futurism and the bold, playful aesthetic of Memphis design. My goal was to create something geometric and structured while still feeling grounded and organic.
I chose wooden disks to strike a balance between rigidity and warmth, adding depth and neutrality to the design. The lamp features a suspended spherical light source supported by brass rods and wooden elements, creating a modern, mid-century aesthetic.
The Process
Sketching
Initial concept sketches exploring various lamp designs, focusing on geometric forms and suspended elements.
3D Modeling
Detailed 3D modeling in SolidWorks to refine the design and create precise component specifications.
Prototyping
Physical prototyping using CNC-cut cherry wood, brass components, and electrical wiring.
Final Assembly
Final assembly and finishing, including staining to enhance wood grain and detail.

Making Process
From Concept to Reality
To make this lamp, I bought a nice piece of cherry wood and cut it out on the CNC. I then assembled and glued the base and added a chamfered the edges with a disk sander. For the lighting, I used a dimmable E12 bulb and a 6" plastic ornament. I stained the lamp to bring out the grain and detail.
